Smart double for Herbie

11:45am Wednesday 19th November 2008

Pennar Robins 1.

Herbrandston 3.

Teenager Josh Smart bagged two goals in Herbrandston’s surprise win at high-flying Pennar Robins.

The home side were not at full strength with brothers Lee and Craig Brockway, Arran Devine and Wayne Brunton all missing, but manager Chris Lloyd wasn’t making excuses as his side went down to defeat for the second week on the bounce.

The home side got off to a dream start when striker Phil Thompson instinctively lobbed keeper Jon Crimmins to give the Robins a fifth minute lead.

Herbie’s lightning quick Herbie teenage striker Smart gobbled up a rebound from a free kick to score in the 40th minute and make it all square at half time.

Smart added his second of the game after the oranges, breaking clear and neatly placing the ball past advancing Robins’ keeper Stuart James.

Steve Batty’s Herbie outfit sealed victory late on when Marc Gelona was gifted an opportunity to tap the ball into an empty net for the third. Delighted Herbie move up to eighth in the table while the Robins disappointingly slip down two places to fourth.
