Four Pembrokeshire men helped Llanelli RFC enter a new era with a win on Saturday.
Dominic Day, Simon Gardner, Jon Davies and Daniel Newton, formerly of Pembroke RFC, Haverfordwest RFC and Whitland RFC respectively, featured in the side that beat Cardiff 32-3 in the first game at the new Parc y Scarlets stadium.
Centre Jon Davies had the honour of the first try in front of the 4,800 crowd, Simon Gardner also crossed over late on.
“It’s always nice to get over in any game, but in such a special game... I will always remember this as a really proud moment,” said try-scorer Davies.
What’s more, Dominic Day combined in injury time with Simon Gardner to crash over for the second try scorer at the Scarlets new home.
“Dominic was stopped short of the line and, just popped me the ball from close range,” said the young prop.
Although Simon admitted it was a great feeling to score, his hectic schedule meant there was little time to celebrate: “I have a game in Cardiff for the regional under-20s on Wednesday so all thoughts turn to that for now.”
The game also saw Dominic complete a unique double of appearing at the last game at Stradey Park and the first at Parc y Scarlets.
